It took a special meeting but the football schedules are near finalization.

Some of the Division I athletic directors met with the 5A commissioners on Tuesday to help teams — mostly Mountain Pointe — find opponents.

Pride athletic director Ian Moses contacted 35 schools and only two Arizona schools — Chandler and Peoria Centennial — said yes in order to fill out the five freedom games it needed to fill. The Chandler contract was eventually agreed to but the Centennial game ended up being dropped.

It led to the meeting and Mountain Pointe came away with games against North, Chavez, Maryvale and Hamilton to go along with Brophy, Desert Vista, Corona del Sol, Dobson and Chandler. Additionally, the team is opening the year in Las Vegas for the Sollenberger Classic against Nevada’s Bishop Gorman on Aug. 23.

The Pride most likely has to drop its game against Centennial of Las Vegas.

Desert Vista will be playing Brophy, Mountain Pointe, Corona del Sol and Dobson as sectional games.

The Thunder’s freedom games will be North, Marana Mountain View, Vail Cienega, Boulder Creek and Peoria Centennial. Desert Vista opens the season playing Mission Hills of San Diego at a neutral site over Labor Day weekend for the Brothers in Arms event.
