Ahwatukee's Altadeña wins district baseball title

The Altadeña Middle School baseball team won the Kyrene School District championship with a 10-0 win over Akimel on April 24.

The team, coached by Travis McKenna, Gary Saunders, Tom Tobin, Chandler Ticknor and Mark Wilson, compiled an 8-2 regular season record.

The Panthers then defeated Apprende and Akimel in the Kyrene District Tournament to win the championship.

The team was made up of 12 eighth-graders and two sixth-graders. Altadeña appeared in its third straight varsity championship game since Kyrene School District adopted the JV/Varsity format three years ago.
