Wheaton headed to NFL camp

Mountain Pointe graduate Marquese Wheaton parlayed a breakout senior season at Southern Miss into a training camp invitation from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wheaton, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback, helped Southern Miss to a 12-2 record. He was named All-Conference USA after twice being named the league’s defensive player of the week.

Wheaton scored three touchdowns, two interceptions and one blocked field goal return, in consecutive games to go along with 55 tackles in 2011.
