Oregon junior catcher Shaun Chase was named Pac-12 player of the week for April 28-May 4, after going 7-of-11 with three home runs and seven RBIs in the Ducks’ sweep of Arizona during that week.

Chase, a Desert Vista graduate, hit two home runs in Friday’s 6-1 victory, and his grand slam provided the winning margin in Sunday’s 5-1 result. Chase had two hits on Saturday, the second of which led off the 10th inning; he was replaced by a pinch runner who came around to score on Austin Grebeck’s walk-off single.

With eight home runs on the season, Chase leads the Pac-12 entering Oregon’s mid-week games Tuesday at home against Oregon State and Wednesday at Portland. First pitch against the Beavers at PK Park is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.

Chase is hitting .301 for the season, and slugging .651. In Pac-12 games, he’s hitting .408 with six homers, 12 RBIs, a .482 on-base average and an .857 slugging average. Were he not five at-bats shy of qualifying, Chase would lead the Pac-12 in slugging and would be second in hitting.

Chase is the second Ahwatukee product to earn the Pac-12 honor this year after Mountain Pointe graduate Scott Kingery of Arizona was honored on Feb. 25.
