Desert Vista graduate Derek Cone signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers after a great year with Mesa Community College.

The right-handed pitcher was selected in the 31st round in June. Monday was the deadline to sign a contract before going back into the draft pool for next year.

Cone went 6-4 in 14 starts with a 1.93 ERA. He struck out 105 in 84 innings while yielding 35 walks and 60 hits.
