Local youth swimmer competes in short course championships

Ahwatukee Foothills resident Shae Nicolaisen, 10, competed at the Short Course Far Western National Championship USA swimming sanctioned swim meet in Morgan Hill, Calif., March 31 through April 4.

Nicolaise qualified for nine events in the 10-and-under division and competed in the maximum seven events.

She finished in the top eight in five of the events and finished ninth in the all-around.

Her best event was the 50-meter back stroke as she finished fourth. She finished fifth in the 50 freestyle and sixth place in the 50 butterfly, 100 free and 100 backstroke.
