A couple of days after being eliminated from the College World Series, longtime teammates Kevin Cron and Jordan Kipper went their separate ways.
The Mountain Pointe tandem helped Texas Christian to the CWS, but were knocked out after going 1-2.
Cron and Kipper were both drafted earlier this month and had decisions to make about whether to turn pro or head back to TCU for the senior years.
Both signed their first pro contracts, marking the end of a long run that started when they were about 10 years old and lasted until this year minus the two years Kipper played at Central Arizona before transferring to TCU prior to this season.
Kipper, a right-handed pitcher, was selected in the ninth round by the Angels and was assigned to the Orem Owlz, the Angels’ Rookie League team in Orem, Utah.
Cron, a right-handed first baseman was taken in the 14th round by the Diamondbacks and was assigned to the Missoula Osprey, the D-backs’ Rookie League team in Missoula, Mont.
Both organizations are in the Pioneer League, so they could very well face other when Missoula travels to Orem July 12-14 or when Orem heads to Montana July 19-22.
Additionally, Mountain Pointe graduate Cole Tucker, who was taken No. 24 overall by the Pirates, began his pro career on Monday for the Gulf Coast League Pirates. He went 0-for-3 with two walks, two strikeouts and a run scored.
