The VINTAGE 9 Foundation, the MSBL, and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association are presenting the Legends of Baseball Vintage Showdown at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The event is free.
Former Major Leaguers will be back on the diamond, but not in just a regular baseball game. The game will be played using all of the equipment, uniforms, rules, and traditions from 1887.
And it won’t be just a reenactment, either. It will be a live, competitive event, showing fans just how the game was played 125 years ago.
Notable participants include Reggie Jackson, Fergie Jenkins, Pete LaCock, Brian Hunter, Dmitri Young, Chili Davis, Dontrelle Willis, Royce Clayton. The participating players are subject to change.
The day’s activities begin with the Legends for Youth Clinic from 3 to 5 p.m. (registration starts at 2:30 p.m.) in which children from all over the Phoenix area can get on the field with the Major Leaguer.
An autograph and “meet the players” session follows at 5 p.m. while the Legends take live pre-game batting practice. At 6:30 there will be pre-game ceremonies and presentations, including a celebrity National Anthem with the first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
