Registration begins today for the Arcadia Family Fun Run, with all proceeds going to fund research for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

The event is organized by Katie and Mark Cosmas, whose five-month-old daughter, Taylor, passed away in April of 2010.

“Losing a child to SIDS puts you in a club that no one hopes to ever join,” said Katie Cosmas. “So our goal is to make sure that no parent has to go through what we went through, and that every baby lives to see their first birthday.”

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the No. 1 cause of death in infants one month to one year of age.

The Cosmas family established the running event and created “Team Taylor” three years ago which, to date, has raised more than $90,000. The fundraising goal this year is $100,000. More than 1,000 runners of all ages and skill levels are expected to participate in this year’s 5K Fun Run and will be spreading the word using #endSIDS in social media.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the support of our friends, neighbors and the entire community, which has allowed us to see a brighter tomorrow” said Mark Cosmas. In 2012, the couple welcomed a baby boy, Cade.

Registration for the April 13 event begins at 10 a.m. this morning. The public can sign up at TeamTaylorAZ.com.

All proceeds from the Arcadia Family Fun Run will be donated to the Three Butterflies SIDS Foundation, which supports researchers like Dr. Hannah Kinney whose research has led to the most promising development of our knowledge on SIDS and the involvement of the neurotransmitter Serotonin.
