The Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team lost in the first round of the West Region tournament on Friday.

The Lopes were out-matched by Seattle Pacific, 85-59, to finish the season 23-8.

GCU’s roster includes four former area players in Mountain Pointe’s Jerome Garrison and the Desert Vista trio of Barrett Robins and the Lowery brothers, Jeff and Josh.

Josh Lowery, a senior, led the team in scoring (13.5), while Garrison, a sophomore, was fourth in scoring (8.2). Jeff Lowery, a freshman, chipped in 3.0 points and Brooks, a senior, added 2.2 points a game.

The 23 wins in a single season are the most by an Antelope squad since the 1996-97 team also won 23 games. The 42 two-season win total (19 last season) is the most since GCU won 46 over the 1995-96 (23) and 1996-97 (23) campaigns. The last time they won at least 24 games in a season was 1989-90, when that squad won 25.
