The Mountain Pointe badminton team closed the gap but couldn’t get past Xavier in the state title match, falling 5-4 on Thursday.

The third-seeded Pride, who lost 6-3 to the top-seeded Gators in the regular season, was unable to defend their title, but continued to show why Mountain Pointe is considered the top program in the state.

“We hung in there and we fought. This team is a scrappy team and I am proud of them for scrapping,” first-year coach Larry Holmes said.
