The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two local Hershey’s Track and Field meets on April 21 and April 28. Registration ends April 6.

The meets are open to kids ages 7 through 14. No experience is necessary, kids just need to like to run, jump or throw.

The department is offering Hershey’s meets on April 21 at Cesar Chavez High School, 3901 W. Baseline Road, and on April 28 at North Canyon High School, 1700 E. Union Hills Drive.

Kids can compete in two main age groups: 7–8 and 9–14. Kids in the 7-8 can choose from 50- and 100-meter dashes, softball throw and standing long jump. Older age groups can choose the same events, plus some longer running race distances. First and second place winners in the older age groups qualify for statewide competitions.

Hershey’s Track and Field meets are national and are among the largest youth track and field events in the country.

Participation is free. Comprehensive information and online registration is available at http://phoenix.gov/parks/sports/hersheytf.html or at (602) 262-7121.
