The Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School cross country teams brought a contingency of athletes to the Desert Twilight Cross Country Invitational last weekend and left with something worth celebrating.

Nearly every one of the 30 or so Akimel A-al runners set new personal bests, with the girls besting the field of 237 finishers in the Middle School/Junior High Championship. Earning a total score of 89 points, they edged out Tuba City Boarding School by 13 points for the win.

Here are the results for the 1.5-mile race:

Girls: 6. Brooklyn Christofis 9:06; 21. Sevanna Hanson 9:43; 26. Julia Bucci 9:49; 27. Soraya Holley 9:50; 39. Holly Hansen 10:01; 43. Emily Maldonado 10:06; 48. Taylor Whitehair 10:11.

Boys: 18. Haydn Denis 8:42; 19. Don Angelo Piasecki 8:49; 70. Caleb Watters 9:41; 82. Christian Spackman 9:53; 84. Bodin Lay 9:54; 86. Josh Koury 9:56; 102. Kaeden Moore 10:09.
