Mountain Pointe's bid to make the state finals for the sixth straight season in badminton came to an end Monday.

The Pride, the third seed in 5A, beat Chandler Hamilton 5-0 on Monday in the first round, but lost 5-4 to sixth-seeded Chandler in the quarterfinals.

Desert Vista, the 11th seed, was knocked out by Chandler as well, 5-3 in the first round.

In singles action, Desert Vista's unseeded Ashley Goldberg has made the final eight after upsetting the sixth seed on Friday. Action resumes Saturday when she takes on third-seeded Stephanie Vermilion of Goodyear Millennium.

On the doubles side, Sabrina Martinez and Geneva Heinkel of Mountain Pointe are still alive after knocking off the second seed. When it starts again on Saturday, the tandem will face unseeded Alex Hoffman and Courtney Foltz of Chaparral.
