Marvin Hypolite has watched the Desert Vista program succeed over the last few years, but hopes to get a little more out of one of the state's best programs.
"I see how they make the semifinals and finals, but they haven't won it," said Hypolite, who was hired at the beginning of the school year. "I want to change that and it can be done with the talent in our program."
The Thunder lost in the Class 5A Division I semifinals last season. It was the fourth time in five seasons that Desert Vista advanced as far as the semifinals.
The Thunder made the title game twice, finishing as state runners-up in 2007 and 2009.
Hypolite replaces Paul Manoogian, who stepped down shortly after the season ended after five seasons.
Hylpolite comes from the Ahwatukee Foothills Soccer Club, where has coached at all age levels. He has a strong background in goal keeping and said the Thunder will play a ball control, passing style.
