Two local athletes make college choices

Mountain Pointe senior pitcher Ciara Gonzales recently gave her verbal commitment to Santa Clara, while Valley Christian junior and Ahwatukee Foothills resident volleyball player Lindy Dyer will be attending Colorado Christian University.

Gonzales had a 3.43 ERA through 49 innings this season with 39 strikeouts and 15 walks. She was also hitting .413 through 21 games with 11 extra-base hits, including six doubles and four triples, with 13 runs and 15 RBIs.

Dyer, a 5-foot-7 outside hitter, had 312 kills, 546 digs and 95 service aces for the Trojans in the fall.
