The Ahwatukee Foothills Soccer Club has had plenty of success since forming in 1999, and yet the club was able to pull off a first on May 4.

The ’99 Girls, coached by Mountain Pointe girls coach Marvin Hyopilite, won the club’s first state championship when it defeated the defending champion Scottsdale Blackhawks by the score of 3-1 in Casa Grande.

The tournament victory earned them a trip to Hawaii for the Region IV Championships.

The ’98 girls, coached by Mountain Pointe boys coach Mark Wilson, finished third at the State Cup after beating Gilbert Arsenal 1-0.
