Phoenix FC, Arizona’s professional soccer franchise, announced recently that it has signed its first player to a one-year contract for the team’s upcoming inaugural season in former Aberdeen FC forward Darren Mackie.

A Scottish Premier League veteran, Mackie has competed in 315 total matches over 14 years with Aberdeen FC, and has scored 63 goals in his career.

“We are thrilled to come to an agreement with Darren knowing that he possesses outstanding qualities on and off the field,” said Phoenix FC head coach David Robertson. “With Darren’s leadership and experience, Phoenix FC is positioned to immediately compete for a USL PRO Championship.” Robertson was a six-time Scottish Premier Champion, all with Aberdeen FC.

Phoenix FC, which is part of the The United States Soccer Federation, begins play in April 2013.
