Ahwatukee resident and Brophy junior Calvin Liang won the gold medal for Cadet (U17) North American Cup at the 2013 U.S. Fencing Summer Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.

In April Liang, who started fencing at age 7, traveled to Porec, Croatia, for the Fencing World Championships where he placed 18th out of 100 of the world’s best fencers as member of the U17 USA Fencing World Team in the Cadet Men Sabre discipline.

Previously, he won his second straight U12 National Championships in 2010.
