Flagstaff was the place to be last weekend for track athletes as the state’s top competitors converged for the West Zone Indoor Championships with several qualifying for the USTAF nationals.
The Arizona Elite, made up mostly of Kyrene Altadeña Middle School athletes, had four area athletes qualify for nationals.
Desert Vista sophomore Octobria Saddler was fourth in the 400 (1:03.08), Ryan Bender was third in 400 (55.12), Mandy Davis (5:32.12) and Morgan Foster (5:43.61) were fourth and fifth in the 1,500-meter run. The event was won by future Desert Vista runner Baylee Jones of Arizona Cheetahs.
Mountain Pointe was well represented as well.
Defending state champion Travonn White jumped 25-3 1/4, which would be good for No. 5 on the Arizona all-time, in the long jump.
Paul Lucas ran a 21.72 in the 200 and also won the 55 meters (6.31) in his age group. Kejavon Moore won the 55 (6.29) in his age group, while Katelin Warren was third in the 400 (1:02.77),
