Former Desert Vista defensive star Devon Kennard has been through this before.

His senior year at Southern California is in jeopardy — much-like his senior year for the Thunder was lost because of a torn ACL — after having surgery to repair a torn right pectoral muscle.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Kennard said he was injured while lifting weights at the end of July. He had been scheduled to start opposite senior Wes Horton, giving the Trojans a formidable, experienced duo on the edge.

Kennard came back from a major knee injury in high school and has had thumb and hip surgeries at USC. He was looking forward to his senior season after playing end and linebacker as a freshman, middle linebacker as a sophomore and end as a junior.

If he recovers in time, Kennard could play part of this season. If he does not play, he could return for a fifth season or enter the NFL draft.
