The road to the Division I state football title will be easier. At least from a sheer numbers point of view.

After the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) allowed sports programs to petition up or down for divisional placement, many of the fringe football teams took the opportunity to move down.

There are now only 29 Division I football programs compared to 40 last season. Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe are in the same section as Corona del Sol, Brophy, North and Dobson in football.

Each sport has different factors and are treated as such in the divisional and sectional breakdown. Golf, swim and track are the only sports that won’t have sections. Schools can appeal their section placement.
