Ahwatukee soccer club wins big in recent tournament

Local CISCO SE Soccer Club won big in the Tucson Forth Lowell Shoot Out Soccer Tournament during the weekend of Jan. 19.

This soccer tournament is one of the largest tournaments in Arizona with more than 350 teams participating. CISCO SE had seven teams participating in the tournament and all were successful.

Below is a summary for the teams that won their divisions:

2001 (U12) Girls Black Team won gold in the tournament with an undefeated record, winning their games with all shutouts (1-0, 2-0, 2-0, 1-0). They also won medals in the Soccer Olympic Events of Accuracy, PK Shootout, and Juggling.

2003 (U10) Girls Black Team won gold in the tournament with scores of (6-0, 6-0, 4-1). They also won gold medals in all four events of the Soccer Olympics.

2005 (U08) Boys Black Team won the tournament by winning all three of its games (4-0, 7-1, and 2-1). They won the championship game in a hard fought battle against Gilbert Arsenal Soccer Club.

The CISCO Southeast Soccer Club is an Ahwatukee-based soccer organization with eight teams that practice at Pecos and other Ahwatukee parks. The CISCO Soccer Club originated in Arizona in 1969 and this is the fourth season for the Southeast division. The team will have its annual tryouts in May for the 2013-14 season. Tickets available for Flag Run

The Checkered Flag Run is a weekend of racing activities in Phoenix hosted by Phoenix International Raceway, Firebird International Raceway, Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino, the Radisson Hotel, and Chester’s Harley-Davidson.

The weekend culminates with motorcycle rides to Phoenix International Raceway to watch NASCAR drivers tear up the track at the NASCAR Subway Fresh Fit 500 on Sunday, March 3. Wristbands are available for $25 starting Feb. 1, or while supplies last. Each wristband grants entrance into the block party and dance. Discounted multi-cultural tickets to the NASCAR Subway Fresh Fit 500 on March 3 at Phoenix International Raceway can be purchased for $35 Feb. 1 through March 2.

Wristbands and NASCAR tickets can also be purchased at Chester’s Harley-Davidson, Chandler Harley-Davidson and Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation.
