Jeff Rutledge, a former player and coach in the NFL and NCAA Champion quarterback at the University of Alabama, has been hired as the head football coach at Valley Christian High School.
Rutledge has had success coaching at every level, but is best known for helping lead the Arizona Cardinals to the franchise’s first NFC Championship and Super Bowl appearance in 2009. As the Arizona Cardinals’ quarterbacks coach, Rutledge coached Kurt Warner to multiple franchise records and a Pro Bowl appearance.
In addition to his two years with the Arizona Cardinals, he has coached in the United Football League for two seasons. Rutledge has found success at the high school level as well. As head football coach at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tenn., he led the team to consecutive state championships in 2002 and 2003 while also serving as the school’s athletic director before taking the NFL coaching position with the Cardinals. His 2003 team finished ranked No. 15 in the nation by the USA Today. Rutledge also served as the head football coach at Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tenn.
A family fundraising event will be from 1 to 7 p.m. on May 19 at the parking lot at Foothills Park Plaza, Desert Foothills Parkway and Chandler Boulevard. This is a chance for the community to come out and support all levels of Blue and Gold football.
Local Ahwatukee football teams have become very competitive and now have opportunities to play in venues outside Arizona. Proceeds will help raise funds to make sure all Blue and Gold players can participate in these opportunities.
The event will feature games and a bounce house for the kids, and a dunk tank with the chance to dunk coaches and local leaders.
There will be live music featuring former Ahwatukee Football player Ryan Ortega and DJ music.
Prize opportunities will feature a 50/50 raffle, and Faux Poker and Blackjack tables for the adults. Food specials will be offered Loco Patron.
