DV boys cross country to compete in regionals

Ahwatukee Foothills News

A few weeks after an outstanding effort from all seven runners helped Desert Vista boys cross country claim the Class 5A-I crown, the squad will put its talents to the test against regional competition.

Andrew Kellogg, Adam Estavillo, Mike Johnson, Albert Kombe, Ramsey Carroll, Sean Gormley and Tucker Kidd will all compete in the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) Southwest Regional on Saturday in Tempe. All but Kidd were on the championship team.

Because it is a non-AIA sanctioned event, the squad will run as Vista/Adrenaline.

The top two team finishers at this race will move on to the 2008 Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Ore., Dec. 6. In addition, four at-large bids will be handed out.

To earn an at-large bid, teams must place third or fourth in its regional, though a fourth-place team cannot qualify ahead of the third-place team in its regional. From there, based on a point-system of "head-to-head" wins over automatic NXN qualifiers, the remaining bids will be passed out.

What is your take on photo speed enforcement on highways?
It is a reasonable way to slow traffic
It helps, but could be perfected
I don't like it, but it is a step in the right direction
It is an attempt to have the public help offset the state's budget deficit
I am undecided
