On a night when Mountain Pointe boys soccer team retired the jersey of one of the most prolific scorers in school history, the Pride made two goals stand up in a non-region game against Marcos de Niza.

Senior midfielder Taylor Miller scored his second and third goals of the season to help give the Pride the 2-1 victory and snap a four-game losing streak.

Mountain Pointe retired the No. 3 Jersey of Brad Evans, who scored 54 goals and had 21 assists before he graduated from Mountain Pointe in 2003. Evans went on to play for the Major League Soccer Cup champion Columbus Crew and will be with the expansion Seattle Sounders this season.

Pride coach Bryan Sabato wouldn't mind having that kind of firepower in his lineup this season.

"We're not finishing," Sabato said. "We spent way too much time on their end of the field to come away with only two goals."

The Pride have been stuck on that goal output all season.

Miller gave the Pride a 1-0 lead early in the second half then put it away with his second goal of the night in the closing three minutes after the Padres had tied the score.

The Pride had its full contingent of players on the field for the first time this season after injuries forced Sabato to work with a makeshift lineup since early December.

Mountain Pointe opens Central Region play against Corona del Sol next Wednesday.

"Time is running out," Sabato said, "and we're going to have to find a way to score."

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
