The Mountain Pointe duo of Mae Maiefski and Samuel Wang made valiant runs but the tennis season came to an end Saturday night.

Both players advanced to the singles round of the final eight, but were knocked out at the Phoenix Tennis Center.

Wang lost to No. 7 Nick Cunningham of Goodyear Millennium, 6-2, 6-2.

Maiefski was KOed by Desert Mountain's Kristi Lee, who was seeded eighth.

Earlier in the day both area doubles teams were knocked out as Mountain Pointe's Mark Karlsrud and Monty Roth and Desert Vista's Karl Leclerc and Mohammad Saleem saw their seasons come to an end.
