Desert Vista senior Sean Coffinger verbally committed to Columbia University to continue his football career on Tuesday evening during an in-home visit.

Coffinger is a multi-sport athlete that returned to tight end and defensive end this season for the Thunder after being forced into playing quarterback last season.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder caught 24 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns, but made his biggest impact in the locker room as one of the team’s leaders that helped guide Desert Vista to the Class 5A Division I semifinals and a surprising 10-3 record.

The Lions just finished 4-6 overall and 2-5 in Ivy League action.
