The Desert Vista boys volleyball team got the one that counted.

The Thunder defeated rival Mountain Pointe 3-2 on the road Tuesday three days after finishing 12th at a tournament Mountain Pointe won.

"The regular season started today and we got some power points," Desert Vista coach Ryan Tolman said. "We almost gave it away, but did enough to get the win."

Desert Vista won 25-23, 25-26, 16-25, 16-25, 25-22. DV led 13-6 in Game 4 but let Mountain Pointe come all the way back.

"We showed some fight and almost stole a match we didn't deserve to win," Mountain Pointe's Fred Mann said.
