DV cross country travels to California; MP teams compete in Tempe
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Desert Vista's cross country teams traveled to California over the weekend to compete in the Woodbridge Invitational.
The boys' contingent finished 13th as a team in the Sweepstakes division and 23rd overall. The meet featured 188 teams.
Senior Adam Estavillo (42nd individually, 15:18) and junior Andrew Kellogg (48th, 15:23) paced DV. Junior Albert Kombe (98th, 15:55); senior Michael Johnson (101st, 15:59); senior Jon Serfilippi (122nd, 16:13); junior Ben Ten Eyck (147th, 16:34); and junior Sean Gormley (154th, 16:45) also ran for the Thunder.
The DV girls, meanwhile, placed 23rd in the sweepstakes and 68th overall. The girls race saw 176 teams take part.
Senior Erin Leonard (109th, 19:10), junior Paige Pyper (136th, 19:47) and sophomore Megan Kupres (142nd, 19:58) were the team's top three finishers. Junior Katie Conway (148th, 20:16); sophomore Tamalyn Kalal, (152nd, 20:36); sophomore Cariss McAtee (154th, 20:50); and senior Katelyn McElhaney (156th, 21:09) also competed.
MP girls win Padre Invitational, boys third
Mountain Pointe's girls cross country team won the Padre Invitational at Kiwanis Park in Tempe.
The sophomore tandem of Lindsey Schader (third, 21:13) and Ellen Hill (eighth, 21:38) paced the win.
Shandiin Sam (10th, 21:52), Daisha Hill-Hurtado (21st, 22:32), Andrea Garcia (29th, 23:41), Larissa Haugan (38th, 24:39), and Chelsea Wine (39th, 24:40) rounded out the top seven.
The Pride boys took third at the same event thanks to seniors Dan Wilson (eighth, 17:30) and Brian Bauer (12th, 17:30).
Shelby Goodman (25th, 18:05), Haipei Cheng (34th, 18:36), Conner Donnelly (38th, 18:46), Jake Washatka (48th, 19:10) and Alex Ashton (53rd, 19:36) also ran.
