The streak is over.

The Mountain Pointe girls basketball team was able to end a frustrating string of defeats on Friday as the Pride defeated visiting rival Desert Vista 79-68.

The length of the losing streak to Thunder wasn't known exactly, but dates to at least the 2005-06 season and was believed to be around 12.

One thing was for sure - no one involved currently with the program had ever defeated the Thunder.

“It was huge for us,” Pride coach Trevor Neider said. “The streak was something we had to get over and we finally did. Desert Vista played us tough and they hit some huge shots.

“It was a physical game and we responded to it. The girls were very excited to finally beat them.”

It didn’t come easy despite the fact the Thunder (12-7) played without junior Emily Wolph and sophomore Kristine Anigwe.

The game was tied at 61 before the 18-7 run by Mountain Pointe (17-3) closed it out.

Kaylah Lupoe led Mountain Pointe with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman Tilasha Okey added 20 and Caitlyn Hetrick had 17.
