Desert Visa girls soccer coach Marvin Hypolite confirmed on Thursday that the Thunder had to forfeit Tuesday's win over Mountain Pointe.

Thunder senior Kelly Watson was supposed to sit out this season's first match after being ejected from last year's season-ending loss to Pinnacle in the Division I quarterfinals.

AIA bylines state any player or coach ejected has to sit out the next game. For Watson that was the following season when the Thunder opened up the year with a double-overtime win over the Pride.

In the loss to Pinnacle, Watson was given her second yellow card after using her hands on the opponent to forcefully gain control of possession about five minutes into overtime.

Later in the day, Thunder athletic director TJ Snyder said they turned in a report to the AIA.

"It's an oversight that shouldn't have happened," he said. "It happened at the end of last season and was never reported. It's a shame because the girls had a hard fought win and it won't go (in the power points) that way."
