Yuma Cibola earned an automatic berth into the Division l playoffs by finishing third in its section despite being outside of the final 16 in the seeding.

The 16th-seeded Raiders ran into a buzz saw in top-seeded Mountain Pointe as the Pride rolled to a 49-0 first-round win Friday.

The Pride (10-1) advances to host Desert Mountain next Friday.

"It's playoff time, our time, the weather is getting cooler," Mountain Pointe coach Norris Vaughan said. "It was a good team victory with good efforts on both sides of the kicking game, the offense and defense."

It was the second straight game the Pride defense did not allow a touchdown and now have given up 8 points over the last four games.

The unit yielded only 109 yards of total offense by Cibola. Jordan Mitchell had 35 of those yards on just six carries before he left the game early with a leg injury and never returned.

"It was our goal to hold them under 100 yards,” senior linebacker Landry Payne said. “We fly around on defense and try to set up our offense. "We just wanted to stay focused and not look past anybody."

Pride senior running back Thomas Warren, who shows a killer instinct in the red zone, did not gain a lot of yardage but scored three touchdowns. The duo of quarterback Antonio Hinojosa and Jalen Brown hooked up for a pair of touchdowns.

Garrett Craig had his seventh 100 yard rushing game with 112 yards on only eight carries. Craig took one to the house for 55 yards in the second quarter for his 22nd touchdown of the season.

The biggest crowd pleaser came when Ciyre Simmons made many slick moves taking a pick six, 80 yards in the third quarter.

"It feels good to have a team with so many different weapons," Payne said.

Payne turned in two defensive big gems in two straight plays, one a sack for a 10-yard loss to pin the Raiders deep.

"I saw the boot(leg) and the running back didn't block so I went for and got the sack," Payne said.

Travonn White then returned a punt 25 yards to the Cibola 21. On the very next play Hinojosa found Brown who easily beat his coverage for the touchdown in the corner of the end zone.

Another big stop saw Charlie Trevino haul down a receiver for a loss of 4 yards at Cibola's 1-yard line. After only a 17-yard punt, the Pride scored with :34 left before halftime on a 3-yard pass from Hinojosa to Brown to build a 35-0 halftime cushion.

DeJhon Edwards had two catches for 36 yards and his 42-yard run on a counter set up the second of Warren's three touchdowns. Cibola never came close to scoring after the opening drive when Edgar Gastelum had plenty of distance but his 52 yard field goal just missed wide left.

"We wanted that shutout, our defense knows it is playoff time and played well," Payne added.
