The Mountain Pointe girls basketball team loves to play hard-nose defense and the Pride might have been at their best Thursday night.

The second-seeded Pride (25-4) beat No. 6 Marcos de Niza 57-31 in the semifinals of the Division I, Section III tournament as Marcos didn't reach double digits in any of the first three quarters.

Mountain Pointe led 33-15 at halftime and 49-21 after three.

The Pride advances to take on No. 1 Pinnacle on Saturday. The game starts at 5:45 p.m. at Chaparral.

The state tournament starts on Wednesday.
