The semifinals for the Tempe Diablos Classic are set.

Desert Vista and Hamilton were the only soccer programs able to get both teams into Thursday’s semifinals as pool play ended Wednesday at Tempe Sports Complex.

The Thunder girls play Corona del Sol with Hamilton and Highland in the other semifinal.

The Desert Vista boys will play Red Mountain with Chandler and Hamilton also still alive.

Each match starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday with the winners advancing to Friday’s title games, which also start at 6 p.m..

The Thunder girls went 3-0 pool play, including a 1-0 win over Red Mountain on Wednesday, while the DV boys beat Marcos 6-2 on Wednesday to also go undefeated in pool play.

Mountain Pointe was also in the tournament as the Pride boys went 2-1 overall including a 2-1 win over Westwood on Wednesday. The Pride’s loss to Chandler on Monday kept them from advancing.

The Pride girls went 1-2 in pool play including Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Hamilton.

The Mountain Pointe girls have had struggled to score goals this season and considering these games do not count in the power points coach Mark Wilson was experimenting and liked what he saw.

“We are trying a new system with players in new positions,” Wilson said. “There were quite a few positives and we actually scored some goals these three games.”
