The individual portion of the state tennis tournament came to an end over the weekend for area players.
None of the entrants from Mountain Pointe or Desert Vista were able to advance to the Elite Eight over the weekend.
The team state tournament begins this week with Desert Vista seeded ninth in both the boys and girls tournament, while Mountain Pointe failed to qualify.
The Thunder faces eighth-seeded Millennium in both tournaments Friday with the boys match at noon and the girls match at 3 p.m.
In the individual tournament, Desert Vista was able to get to the Sweet 16 in each tournament.
The combination of Sanjay Ramiah and Daniel Chen played well before losing 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to fifth seeded Daniel Hollands and Chrisman Smith of Mesquite.
The Thunder duo of Jennifer Kahn and Carolyn Roth, who were seeded sixth, fell 6-4, 6-1 to the unseeded combo of Kelly Maroney and Shannon Headley of Pinnacle.
In singles action, Mohammed Saleem was defeated by Mesquite’s fifth-seeded Nick Cunningham, 6-1, 6-1, while eighth-seeded Tori Kammerzel, filling in the for the injured Melissa Kahn, lost 6-2, 6-2 to Mesa Mountain View’s Hanna Nelson.
