Tempe Union High School District Director of Communications Linda Littell on Tuesday said the district is waiting on a resignation letter from Desert Vista girls basketball coach Jaysie Chambers-Sheppard.

Littell said if the resignation letter is not received by Friday, then the process of firing Chambers-Sheppard would be put into motion.

The first-year coach allegedly had an incident with one of the players during a timeout in Friday's loss at Mountain Pointe, according to several sources.

Littell said there were several complaints by parents from the start of the season and the latest "brought it to a head," and led to the coaching change.

When contacted on Monday Chambers-Sheppard said she “did not harm anyone,” but would not comment on anything else.

Junior varsity coach Jontar Coleman was named interim coach as the Thunder host Sandra Day O'Connor on Tuesday at the Storm Center.
