The Arizona Interscholastic Association released the sectional tournaments for basketball Saturday morning.

Here is a quick look before a preview story runs later this week.

In Division I boys, Desert Vista picked up the top seed in Section III and plays No. 8 Chaparral on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Chaparral. The sites were predetermined so the fact that the Thunder have to play on the road is just bad luck.

Mountain Pointe picked up the sixth seed and will take on No. 3 Brophy on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at Desert Mountain. The two teams split two very entertaining games this season.

In Division III boys, Horizon Honors finished outside the top eight of Section II as No. 11 and will miss the postseason after finishing No. 33 overall. The Eagles lost five of seven down the stretch to end their chances.

In Division I girls, Desert Vista has been tabbed the second seed in Section III and will play No. 7 Xavier on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Desert Mountain.

Mountain Pointe earned the fifth seed and will face No. 4 Boulder Creek at 5:45 pm at Chaparral on Tuesday.

In Division III girls, the Horizon Honors girls finished outside the top eight at No. 11 and No. 37 overall so the Eagles season is over.

This is the first year of the section tournament and there is one man who believes the system is flawed as far as the mathematics are concerned.
