MP football notebook: Walking wounded

Ahwatukee Foothills News

Some of Mountain Pointe's walking wounded are still wounded, but at least most of them were back in uniform for the football game against Yuma Cibola Friday night at Karl Kiefer Stadium.

The sling that held quarterback Austin Lahr's left shoulder in place for almost two weeks was gone and the senior played the entire game in the 14-10 victory over the Raiders.

Running back De'Andre Currie and linebacker Ryan Noble were off crutches and in uniform, but didn't play. Currie is recovering from an ankle injury and Noble had a hamstring tear. All three were injured in the Scottsdale Horizon game two weeks ago.

Running back Ben Shook was also in uniform but another running back, Tyrone Boykin, was still in street clothes. They injured ankles in the Chandler Hamilton game a week earlier.

Boomer

After a busy night in a 42-0 loss to Chandler Hamilton a week earlier, Pride punter Ben DeMarr almost had the night off against Cibola.

But the senior did get off an 84-yard boomer late in the first half that gave the Pride some breathing room in field position and an opportunity to take a 10-7 lead into the locker room.

Momentum Shifter

Clinging to a 17-10 lead with almost the entire fourth quarter to play a couple of defensive plays shifted the momentum in the Pride's favor.

Junior linemen Albert Garcia went one-on-one with Cibola quarterback Anthony Daniels and came up with a solo sack.

Defensive back Tyler Buck, who knocked own one pass and was massaging an obviously sore left hand after Daniels completed a 13-yard pass, zeroed in on Daniels' next pass for an interception.

The play killed a Raiders drive and the Pride ran eight minutes off the clock while clinging to the lead.

WHO Cares About Swine Flu
The World Health Organization has declared its first influenza pandemic in 40 years. Does this concern you?
I'm stocking up on hand sanitizer and Theraflu as we speak.
I'm not that concerned. Swine flu doesn't seem much more deadly than the regular flu.
Is swine flu still a thing?
