Desert Vista boys basketball has dismissed second-leading scorer Grant Ellender from the team.

Thunder coach Doug Harris said Ellender, who had been averaging 10.5 points, was released for "conduct detrimental to the team." The senior will not rejoin the team this season.

Ellender transferred to DV before the school year. The senior played in 12 games for Desert Vista, recoding a season-high 23 points against Cesar Chavez on Dec. 15.

Ellender was also averaging 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

"When he came here, he had guidelines and stipulations and rules he had to follow," Harris said. "He wasn't able to maintain that."

Harris said he was unsure if Ellender had transferred to a different school.

"I just know that he's no longer in our program," Harris said.

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
