Summer athletic camps

Strength Camp

A seven-week strength camp for boys and girls from the seventh through 12th grades will be held at Mountain Pointe High School from Monday, May  through Wednesday, July 9.

The Pride Strength Camp is designed to improve muscle strength and endurance and will be held from 1:15 to 4:15 p.m. Pride freshman football players will be training from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. while junior varsity players will meet from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Varsity football players will be participating from 4:15 to 5:15 each day.

The cost of the camp is $80 and further information is available through Mountain Pointe head football coach Phil Abbadessa at pabbaddesa.mtp.@tuhsd.k12.az.us or (480) 759-6126.

 

Pride Football Camp

Mountain Pointe High School will be holding football camps for two age groups this summer.

The Pride Youth Football Camp from third through eighth grades is scheduled from Monday, June 23 through Wednesday, June 25 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Another camp for ninth- through 12th-graders will be held Monday, July 28 through Thursday, July 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Both camps will be held at Mountain Pointe and cost $100 per camper. Further information is available through Mountain Pointe head football coach Phil Abbadessa at pabbaddesa.mtp.@tuhsd.k12.az.us or (480) 759-6126.

 

AZ East Valley Juniors Volleyball

The AZ East Valley Juniors Volleyball club will be hosting two camps for third- through ninth-graders (fall grades) at Desert Vista High School, 16440 S. 32nd St.

The first all-skills camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3.

A second all-skills camp is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 4 and Thursday, June 5.

MP Basketball Camp

A pair of basketball camps for seventh- through 12th-graders will be held this summer at Mountain Pointe High School.

The Mountain Pointe Basketball Camps will concentrate on skill development. Sessions will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on June 16 and 18; and from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 17 and 19.

The cost of the camp is $100 and includes a camp T-shirt. Payment must be received by Friday, June 13.

MP Summer Basketball

Mountain Pointe will be participating in the annual city of Tempe summer basketball league this summer at McClintock and Marcos de Niza high schools.

Open gym on Monday and Wednesday begins on Tuesday, May 27, from 3 to 4 p.m. Freshmen will be playing games on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Junior open gym is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. and games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The varsity open gym will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. with games scheduled for Monday and Wednesday nights.

Mountain Pointe has scheduled four varsity tournaments May 30 to 31 at Phoenix Cesar Chavez, June 18 to 21 at Arizona State University and June 26 to 28 at Gilbert Mesquite High School. The city of Tempe tournaments for freshmen, junior varsity and varsity will be held at the end of June.

 

MP girls hoops camp

Basketball camps for girls in two age levels will be held this summer at Mountain Pointe High School.

A skills camp for girls from the fourth through seventh grades is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 2 through Thursday, June 5 at the Mountain Pointe auxiliary gym.

That camp will concentrate on fundamentals like ball handling, shooting form and passing. Competitive games are included in the camps that cost $60 per player.

Another shooting camp for girls from the seventh through 12 grades will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 9 through Thursday, June 12 in the MPHS auxiliary gym.

The cost is $80 and will focus on shot selection, form shooting and drills to improve the players' shooting percentage.

Players will be taking a minimum of 500 shots a day and will be tracked statistically during each session. The camp is limited to 24 players.

Campers should dress comfortably in a T-shirt, athletic shorts, athletic socks and shoes.
