Thunder freshmen inched closer to their perfect season over the past two weeks, knocking off Tempe Corona del Sol, 34-7, on Oct. 14 before defeating Chandler High, 48-0 Wednesday night.

Both games began as near-mirror images of themselves, with the Thunder jumping out to one-touchdown leads at the end of the first quarter in both contests. Both times out Desert Vista blew the games open in the second quarter, entering halftime 28-0.

Against Chandler this week, the Thunder offense came alive thanks to a couple of long runs by quarterback Matt Young and the excellent catching and running skills of Nick Farina, Jareck Hilgers and Austin Hicks.

Desert Vista is set to face Phoenix Brophy in the season finale for both teams on Oct. 28. Brophy entered its matchup with Chandler Hamilton this week also unbeaten, setting up the ultimate championship clash between the Thunder and the Broncos for next Wednesday at Thunder Stadium. Kickoff is 6 p.m., and the Desert Vista freshman team and its supporters would like to invite the entire Ahwatukee Foothills community to cheer the team on to a perfect finish.
