DV, MP athletes commit to colleges

Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe are expected to announce a slew of college commitments this week.

The Thunder will five sign on Wednesday in Ace Martinez (William Penn) for wrestling, Stephanie Shober (Nova Southeastern College) for swimming, Tyler Kunce (Florida Institute of Technology) for lacrosse, David Palty (Stephens Institute) for basketball and McKella Williams (San Bernadino) for volleyball.

Some of the highlights include Martinez being a two-time state placer at 160 pounds and Williams helping the Thunder to the state semifinals as a senior while ranking second on the team with 293 kills.

At Mountain Pointe on Thursday, Tylor Wimbish (Mesa Community College) signed for basketball and Erika Papadeas (Dallas Baptist) signed for volleyball.

Wimbish finished with 945 points and 440 rebounds in his career, while Padpadeas was a four-year varsity player with 1,045 career kills.
