Starting a season out on a high note is what every team aims for and on Wednesday the Desert Vista golf team hit that mark at Club West.
The Thunder finished even-par over three days in the Ahwatukee Cup, a score low enough to give them their second consecutive victory in the tournament. The first two rounds were played at the Foothills Golf Club.
The Thunder, who began the third day leading by eight strokes, finished at 364 and were followed by Mountain Pointe (377), Desert Ridge (381) and Williams Field (383).
Leading Desert Ridge by eight strokes entering the final day, and Desert Vista was able to cruise to victory, lead largely by the play of senior Jack Snyder.
Snyder carded a 1-under par for the tournament and Desert Vista coach Paige Peterson said he’s already seen improvement from last year.
“We don’t have the depth that we did last year, so it’s good to see guys like Zach step up early and show that level of commitment to improve that much,” Peterson said.
The tournament is played with alternate shots on Day 1 and Day 3 with regulation golf played in the middle round.
Snyder tied Cave Creek's Trevor Wales for medalist honors as they each shot 35 on Tuesday.
This is the fifth time the Ahwatukee Cup has been won by either Desert Vista or Mountain Pointe.
