Mountain Pointe graduate Will Claye continued his good run in the 2012 London Olympics on Thursday.
Claye finished with the silver medal in the triple jump behind USA teammate Christian Taylor.
It was the second medal of the games for the 21 year old as he won the bronze in the long jump on Saturday.
He is the first male competitor to medal in both horizontal jumps since 1936, matching the feat of Japan's Naoto Tajima at the Berlin Olympics and becoming the first American to pull it off since 1904.
Claye jumped 57 feet, 9 3/4 inches to be bettered only by former Florida teammate Taylor, who went 58-5 1/4 on his fourth jump.
Mountain Pointe had TVs set up in the gym lobby and PE lecture hall so students and faculty could watch Claye.
"When the entire room (in the PE lecture hall) started clapping in unison and it led to a crescendo as he approached the board it sent chills down my spine," Mountain Pointe athletic director Ian Moses said. "It was pretty surreal. It hasn't set in yet and I don't know if it ever will."
