Here are some partial results from the start of Wednesday's Division I state track meet.

Desert Vista's senior Yasmine Yacut won her second consecutive 800 meter run to get the girls squad off to a good start in hopes of finishing in the top three for the eighth top since 2001.

Yacut also finished fourth in the 1600 run.

Freshman McKenzie DiGiovani-Holmes finished fifth in the discus and sophomore Victoria Wadsworth was sixth.

The Mountain Pointe girls 4x100 relay team finsihed third behind Shaman Bailey, Jaimie Gonzalez, Aleks Cataruzolo and Kevina Godfey.

In boys action, senior Edmond Baker came in as the top seed in the high jump after reaching 6-foot-10 during the season, but a hamstring injury slowed toward him leading up to state.

He said he was a little tender still but was expecting to make a run at his PR. It never came together for the Arizona State recruit as he finished fourth with a jump of 6-4.

DV's Carter Macey finished fifth in the 3200 run.

The Thunder's 4X800 relay team finished fourth as Griffin Clithero, Nick Henderson,  Bobby Lamoureux and Colin Brown ran the legs.

DV's Jarek Hilgers finished fourth in the long jump.

Half of the field events were completed on Wednesday and the rest will be competed on Saturday at Mesa Community College, starting at 1 p.m.

Most of the track events were just preliminaries with the finals being held on Saturday.
