And then there was one.

Of the four area high school tennis teams only the Desert Vista girls squad is left.

The Thunder (13-3) made the Division I state semifinals for the first time after beating Mesquite 5-1 on Wednesday.

"I've had great talent before, but this team is so mentally tough," Desert Vista coach Angel Singer said.

Singer said the big win came from Kacie Bottock as she beat Mesquite's No. 3 after losing to the same opponent earlier in the season.

Fourth-seeded Desert Vista advances to take on No. 1 Phoenix Xavier at the Paseo Raquet Center at 1:30 p.m.

The Thunder boys team lost 5-1 Thursday in the quarterfinals to No. 1 Tucson Salpointe.

Mountain Pointe boys and girls team both lost in the first round on Monday.
