Desert Vista kept its hot streak rolling Saturday with a 5-3 win over No. 13 Boulder Creek in Anthem in the Division I baseball playoffs.

The Thunder won for the fifth time in six games to reach Tuesday's second round where they will face No. 4 Brophy, which had a first-round bye.

No. 20 Desert Vista (16-13) jumped on Boulder Creek early, leading 5-0, before holding on for the victory.

Junior Shane Slattery had two RBIs to help the offense out.

Senior left-hander Hunter Rodriguez (5-4) started and picked up the win as Tyler Adams closed the door for his fourth save of the season.

"No one expected us to be here," Thunder coach Stan Luketich said hours after the game. "They worked so hard to get here. It's a great bunch of guys and they just have fun."

The Thunder's recent good run started when they beat Brophy 6-5 on April 16.
