A sluggish start by the Desert Vista boys basketball team was too much to overcome Friday in a 61-50 loss to Hamilton in Fiesta Region action.
"I don't understand how a team that is 17-5 (going into the game) has no intensity at the start of the game," Desert Vista coach Dave Williams said. "It doesn't make much sense. Hopefully, we regroup and come back strong."
The Thunder (17-6, 3-3) fell down by as much as 12 points in the first quarter and trailed 37-28 at the half. Desert Vista, which had a three-game winning streak snapped, closed within a basket in the fourth quarter against the Huskies (13-7, 3-3), but was never able to completely close the gap as Hamilton pushed it back it out to a comfortable lead.
"We hit another lull," Williams said. "I still have confidence in them, but we can't play"
Junior Danny Powell led the Thunder with 20 points, while Steve Klein and Jeff Lowery added 11 points each.
