For the second time in three years, the Desert Vista girls tennis team advanced to the Division I state semifinals.

And the Thunder, seeded sixth, did so in convincing fashion.

Desert Vista swept No. 3 Basha 5-0 on Wednesday to end the match before it even got to doubles.

No. 1 junior Melissa Kahn, No. 2 junior Yolena Carlon, No. 3 senior Tori Kammerzell, No. 5 junior Ann Carsey, and No. 6 sophomore Mikayla Mularoni all won in straight sets to make quick work of the Bears.

The Thunder will take on No. 10 Chaparral in the semifinals at noon Friday at Scottsdale Ranch and Tennis Center.

The Firebirds won the regular season match up 5-4 on April 15 at Chaparral.

No. 1 Xavier and No. 5 Millennium play in the other semifinal.

The championship match is Saturday at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale with a 11 a.m. start time.
